Thinking Forest / communication design / The University of Tokyo

Design of a construction fence inside the campus of Tokyo University in front of the new Fukutake Hall.The initial aim was to use the fence surface to create a partecipatory project that symbolized the interdisciplinarity of knowledge in the Interfaculty of Information Studies.
Then the idea of a Thinking Forest arised.The forest as a metaphor for an interconnected environment where each part belongs to the whole but mantains its peculiarity.

The design created a 90m long forest using about 600 keywords taken from research subjects. Students and guests had the possibility of sticking animal-shaped form on the fence expressing their interest in the topics.
The fence was installed from may to november 2007.
